Retainer Instructions

Follow these essential care instructions to protect your custom retainer investment and keep your newly straightened smile healthy and locked permanently in place:

  • Wear as directed: Wear your retainer 24 hours a day for the first few months, or as specifically instructed by Dr. Gopi Sankar Banik.
  • Store in the case: Whenever your retainer is not in your mouth, place it inside its protective plastic case. *Never wrap it in a napkin—it will get thrown away!*
  • Clean daily: Brush your retainer gently with a soft toothbrush and cool water. You can also use denture cleaning tablets or retainer cleaner.
  • Avoid heat: Do not leave your retainer in a hot car, rinse it with hot boiling water, or microwave it. Heat will warp and ruin the custom fit.
  • Keep away from pets: Dogs and cats love to chew on acrylic retainers. Keep them closed in their cases and out of reach!
